Thunderbirds alum, Parker native Hawkey selected Hockey East Goalie of the Month
Providence College sophomore goaltender Hayden Hawkey has been named the Stop It Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for December.
In six games during the month of December, the Parker native posted a 3-1-2 record, a league-best 1.47 goals-against average and ranked second in save percentage (.947).
Hawkey stopped 47 of 50 shots to pace the Friars to a 1-0-1 record against No. 2 Denver last weekend and turned away 65 of 67 shots during Providence’s two-game sweep at RIT earlier last month, which earned him Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week honors.
The monthly honor was the first for Hawkey and the first for the Friars in 2016-17.
Hawkey, a Colorado Thunderbirds graduate, was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the sixth round (177th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft.
