Grizzles sign three, including Team USA World Junior gold medalist Skinner
The ECHL’s Utah Grizzlies have added defenseman Hunter Skinner and goaltenders Kevin Carr and Evan Buitenhuis to the 2020-21 roster.
Skinner played for the United States in the 2021 World Junior Championship, winning gold on Jan. 6 with a 2-0 win over Canada.
Skinner (pictured) was a fourth-round pick (112th overall) by the New York Rangers in the 2019 NHL Draft.
During the 2019-20 season, he played with the OHL’s London Knights and recorded 32 points (six goals, 26 assists) with a plus-22 rating.
A familiar name to Grizzlies fans, Carr has played in 63 games for Utah. Carr went 12-11-6 with a .909 save percentage and a 2.71 GAA in the 2017-18 season. The next year, Carr went 20-9-3 in 34 games with a .906 save percentage and a 2.66 GAA.
Last season, Carr played with the Nottingham Panthers of the EIHL and went 22-15-0 with a .918 save percentage and a 2.44 GAA.
Buitenhuis played with the ECHL’s Worcester Railers for the past two seasons and won 24 games with a .922 save percentage and a 2.70 GAA. He has two professional shutouts in his career. Playing his college hockey at NCAA Division III Hamilton College from 2014-18, Buitenhuis finished 37-17-12 with a .944 save percentage and a 1.67 GAA.
In addition, goalie Parker Gahagen was loaned to the AHL’s Colorado Eagles, while goaltender Peyton Jones, defensemen Ian Scheid and Matt Abt and forward Charlie Gerard were recalled to the Eagles.
