Colorado youth hockey products Klee, Hanson finish NCAA careers, sign pro contracts

 

Following the conclusion of their college hockey season at Northern Michigan University back in March, a pair of players with Colorado connections signed their first professional contracts with ECHL teams.

Forward Garrett Klee signed with the Kansas City Mavericks while defenseman Bo Hanson inked with the Wheeling Nailers.

A Morrison native, Klee tallied five points during the 2021-22 season, scoring one goal and adding four assists on the year. Klee played 133 games for the Wildcats, registering a total of 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points.

The Mavericks are the ECHL affiliates of the NHL’s Calgary Flames and AHL’s Stockton Heat.

In three games with Kansas City, Klee picked up an assist.

Back home, Klee spent time with the Colorado Thunderbirds.

Hanson, an Idaho native, joined the Wildcats last offseason after spending a season with the University of Denver and three seasons with St. Lawrence University.

During the 2021-22 season at NMU, Hanson tallied a total of three goals and nine assists for 12 points in 35 games. Hanson ended his college career with 148 games played, notching 15 goals and 48 assists for 63 points.

The Nailers are affiliates of the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins and AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

With the Nailers, Hanson contributed two assists in nine games.

During his youth hockey career, Hanson played for the Colorado Rampage and once he made the jump to junior hockey, served as captain of the USHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks in 2016-17.
