Air Force duo picks up weekly awards from Atlantic Hockey
Air Force’s Shane Starrett and Brady Tomlak have earned Travel Team USA Atlantic Hockey weekly honors in helping lead the Falcons to a road sweep at Bentley Feb. 3-4.
Starrett was named the Goalie of the Week, while Tomlak was named the Rookie of the Week.
Starrett stopped 51 of the 53 shots he faced in the series to lead the Falcons to the sweep. The sophomore from Bellingham, Mass., posted a 1.00 GAA and a .962 save percentage in the series. He made 24 saves on Friday, including a save on a breakaway when Air Force held a 2-1 lead in the second period. On Saturday, he made 27 saves, including another save on a breakaway in the first period of a scoreless game.
Tomlak (pictured), a freshman winger from Oakland, Mich., had three points in the Bentley series. He was also plus-3 and won 17 faceoffs in the series. In the opening game, he tied his career high with two points. He had the first assist on the goal by Tyler Rostenkowki and then scored his fourth of the season in the second period of the 6-1 win. On Saturday, he had the first assist on Phil Boje’s goal, his 11th assist of the season.
The weekly award was Starrett’s third of the season and eighth of his career. For Tomlak, it was the first of his career.
