Northern Cyclones defenseman Andrew Nieusma has been named one of the USPHL Premier Defensemen of the Month for the North Region.

The Cyclones were extremely busy in the Hub City from the start, going 8-4-1 in 13 January games, playing almost every other day on average against competition from all over the country.

Very few in the league anywhere could boast of takeaway numbers like those that Nieusma put up, as the 2001 birth year from Superior, who also has BCHL experience, ended up with 113 on the month. He also helped out offensively with a scoring line of four goals and 11 points in his 13 games and remained a plus-1 despite a late-January losing streak for the team. 

During his youth years, Nieusma played for the Boulder Bison, Rocky Mountain RoughRiders and Colorado Springs Tigers.
