For Colorado Springs native Barr, NAHL tender opportunity with Anchorage ‘very exciting’

Gavin Barr has had a solid 2023-24 season with the NA3HL’s Helena Bighorns.

Recently, the Colorado Springs native earned a shot to play in the NAHL by signing a tender agreement with the Anchorage Wolverines.

“My tender opportunity with Anchorage came up after the NA3HL Showcase,” said Barr. “I initially had a conversation with them after a game at the showcase and then had a follow-up phone call with the director of scouting (Taylor Guay) and GM (Keith Morris) where they had offered me one of their tenders. Getting an opportunity to be able to play in Anchorage next season is very exciting, as I have wanted to take my game to the next level and be able to play in the NAHL. With this opportunity, I will be able to do just that.

“The Anchorage Wolverines are a great team, with an outstanding coaching staff and management, and I am lucky to have the opportunity to be part of the team. I also think it will be an amazing experience to live in Alaska and play in front of their fans.”

This weekend, the Bighorns are playing in the semifinals of the Fraser Cup championship tournament.

“Our goal is to bring the Fraser Cup back to Helena for the first time ever,” Barr said. “My mindset going into the tournament was that there is truly nothing to save it for. I must play to the best of my abilities to help my team win. Our team’s mindset is all the same. We have one goal, and we all want to win the Fraser Cup. We have all been on the same page since Day 1. Everyone has been putting the effort in both on and off the ice, doing the right things, eating the right way, and staying healthy.

“Our team is ready to win the Fraser Cup.”

Back home, Barr played for the Krivo School of Hockey Elite and Colorado Rampage.
