Strong military bloodlines run deep for Englewood native, recent Army commit Sisson

Donny Sisson started exploring colleges nearly a year ago and wanted to find the best fit, both on the ice and in the classroom.

The Englewood native and talented defenseman crossed both off his list when he recently committed to NCAA Division I Army West Point.

“They contacted me at Christmas and I kept in touch with them until I committed,” said Sisson, who will head to campus in the fall of 2028. “They are one of the best academic schools in the country and set you up for life after you graduate. They also have amazing hockey on top of that. Academics have always been a big priority for me and I’m looking to major maybe in Engineering or Finance.

“There is a big military background in my family. My grandpa served, my dad served, and my uncle served. I got into hockey because of my dad and I’ve played my whole life.”

In Colorado, Sisson played for the Colorado Thunderbirds, Rocky Mountain RoughRiders and Littleton Hawks.

“One coach that has helped me significantly is Jordan Pietrus, who runs TPH Colorado,” Sisson said.

This season, Sisson is skating again for the BCHL’s Salmon Arm Silverbacks. Last year, he compiled two assists in 30 regular-season games and one assists in five postseason games. So far in 2026-27 through 15 games, Sisson has played solid on the back end but has yet to hit the scoresheet.

“My goals for this year are to be a top-four defenseman who puts up points and is lockdown defensively,” said Sisson. “My short-term goals for hockey are to have a really good season and my long-term goals are to go as far as I can.

“For school and life, I want to be successful in whatever I’m doing after hockey.”
