Salt Lake City native, Pikes Peak product Solomon commits to NCAA D-I Northeastern
The Aston Rebels have announced that defenseman Ryan Solomon has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Northeastern University (Hockey East).
Northeastern is located in Boston and the Huskies enter the holiday break with a 6-7-4 mark.
Solomon, 20, is tied for first in the North American Hockey League’s plus-minus department with a plus-25 rating. He also leads all defensemen in the league as well as the Rebels in that category.
A Salt Lake City native and former Pikes Peak Miner, Solomon is currently ninth on the Rebels with 16 points (six goals, 10 assists).
“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to attend and play hockey at such a prestigious school like Northeastern,” said Solomon. “I fell in love with the culture of the campus and the city, and I cannot picture a better fit for the next four years. I would like to thank all my family, friends and organizations who have helped make my dreams come true. I would like to express a special thank you to coach (Joe) Coombs and the Aston Rebels.”
“I couldn’t be happier for Ryan,” added Coombs. “His junior hockey career started slowly. When he came to the Rebels, he worked extremely hard on and off the ice. He bought into our system and he has flourished ever since. He is the epitome of an Aston Rebels. This commitment is well deserved.
“Northeastern is getting a fine hockey player, but an even better person.”
