Superior’s Nieusma, Littleton’s Flageolle collect USPHL weekly honors

The USPHL has announced that Northern Cyclones defenseman Andrew Nieusma is the New England Division Defenseman of the Week, while Hampton Roads Whalers goalie Kannon Flageolle is the Southeast Division Goaltender of the Week.

A second-year Cyclone, Nieusma, a 2001-born Superior native, posted two goals and one assist in two wins, over which the Cyclones gave up just one goal.

Nieusma (pictured top left) has 26 points in 23 games this season and 57 points over 61 games since 2020-21.

During his youth hockey days, Nieusma skated for the Colorado Springs Tigers and Rocky Mountain RoughRiders.

Flageolle, an ’02 out of Littleton (pictured top right), helped the Whalers go 4-0 at the USPHL Florida College Showcase.

He stopped 48 of 51 shots in his two starts, both obviously wins, to end the weekend with a .940 save percentage. In his better of the two games, he stopped 28 of 29 shots to beat the Florida Division-leading Florida Eels.

In his youth career, Flageolle played for the Colorado Rampage.
