Denver duo captures weekly NCHC awards

After all eight National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) teams were in action last weekend, the conference announced the Bauer NCHC Players of the Week for the week of Oct. 10-16 on Monday.

Denver senior blue liner Will Butcher is the NCHC Defenseman of the Week, while DU junior Tanner Jaillet garnered NCHC Goaltender of the Week.

DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK
Will Butcher, Denver
Senior Defenseman
Sun Prairie, Wis.

Butcher anchored Denver’s blue line and helped limit then No. 2/2 Boston University to only four goals all weekend as the Pioneers swept the Terriers. Playing on DU’s top defensive pairing, the Colorado Avalanche draft pick handed out an assist in each victory while blocking eight shots in the series. In Friday’s 4-3 win, his primary assist set up the game’s first goal on the power play, while he added an assist on the final goal in Denver’s 3-1 victory Saturday. Butcher posted a plus-2 rating on Saturday as well and finished plus-2 on the weekend. The team captain played on both special teams units and led the DU penalty kill that went 7-for-9 on the weekend. Butcher also fired four shots on goal in the series. This is Butcher’s sixth career NCHC Defenseman of the Week honor, including four last season.

Jaillet

GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
Tanner Jaillet, Denver
Junior Goaltender
Red Deer, Alberta

Jaillet backstopped Denver to a sweep of then No. 2/2 Boston University, earning a pair of wins in net while posting a 2.00 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage in the series. On Friday, he made 23 saves in a 4-3 victory, while the next night he stopped 24 shots while allowing only one goal, which came on the power play. Jaillet was named the game’s No. 2 star on Saturday when he helped kill 5-of-6 BU power plays. On the weekend, he compiled 47 saves on 51 shots with two of the four goals allowed coming on the man advantage, while he helped kill seven other Terrier power plays. This is Jaillet’s third career NCHC Goaltender of the Week honor.
