Colorado products Reid, Brett, Hecklinger garner weekly accolades from USPHL

Three Colorado natives have earned USPHL player of the week honors.

For the USPHL Elite Mid-Atlantic Division, C.J. Reid of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights is the Defenseman of the Week.

Reid (pictured top left), a 2004-born blueliner from Pine Creek High School, was singled out by Knights head coach Ryan Secor as instrumental in the team’s win over the Rockets Hockey Club. He has three goals and 17 points in 21 games this season and has also registered one assist in two USPHL Premier games for the Knights.

Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings blueliner Colby Brett is the Defenseman of the Week in the Midwest West Premier Division.

A second-year USPHL Premier veteran and first-year Riverking, Brett (pictured top right) missed the first game of a two-game set against the Chicago Cougars (a loss) with an injury, but came back with a vengeance on Saturday to help his team respond with a 4-1 win.

The Erie native played over 30 minutes and scored a power-play goal, while also playing in his 100th career junior game.

During his youth hockey days, Brett played for the Colorado Thunderbirds and last season, skated for the USPHL’s Provo Riverblades.

Over in the Atlantic West Premier Division, the Utica Jr. Comets’ Spencer Hecklinger is the Forward of the Week.

Hecklinger made his USPHL debut last year playing for the Skipjacks Academy 18U squad, and he has returned to the league at the Premier level with Utica.

Recently, Hecklinger put up four goals over three victories against the Connecticut Jr. Rangers and Elmira Jr. Enforcers, including the game-winner against the Jr. Enforcers. He now has 27 points in 19 games.

Back home, the Denver native skated for the Colorado Evolution and Rocky Mountain RoughRiders.
