Parker product, Thunderbirds grad Debord off to college hockey at NCAA D-III Lawrence
For New Jersey 87’s forward Tim Debord, the third time was the charm.
Or in the 2000-born Parker native’s case, the third season was the charm.
Debord just finished playing in his third season with the Eastern Hockey League’s 87’s and has committed to play at the NCAA Division III level next fall with Lawrence University.
“It’s been the last two years I wanted to commit, to finally get it done, it feels amazing,” said Debord. “The location (Appleton, Wis.) and the hockey program is such a big positive. It’s such a welcoming place. I can’t wait to be there for the next four years.”
In 117 career games in New Jersey, the talented playmaker notched 133 points (53 goals, 80 assists).
Debord can be considered an original 87’s player as he was a member of the 2018-19 team, which was New Jersey’s first season at the EHL level.
Now, Debord is beyond excited to have this weight off his shoulders, and grateful for the opportunity he’s earned at Lawrence with the Vikings.
“It was a journey for sure,” Debord said. “(New Jersey coach-GM Adam) Houli said it in his own words that I was fifth line, and I worked my way up. I earned myself a couple of games in the NAHL the first season then after that, I just kept developing every year. I was named assistant captain my first year, stayed an assistant my second year, third year was given the honor of being the captain.”
During his youth hockey days, Debord played for the Colorado Thunderbirds and at Valor Christian High School.
