Former T-Bird Morris commits to Notre Dame
Former Colorado Thunderbirds goaltender Cale Morris has committed to play his NCAA Division I hockey at the University of Notre Dame.
Playing in the United States Hockey League (USHL) this season Morris, from Larkspur, was acquired by the Waterloo Black Hawks in January via a trade with the Chicago Steel.
Since coming to Waterloo, he’s posted a 15-6-3 record to compliment a 1.82 goals-against average and a .940 save percentage.
During his first four starts with the Black Hawks, he allowed just three goals, and he allowed one goal or less in seven of his first eight starts with the team. The 18-year-old has also posted four shutouts during his time in Waterloo and leads all USHL goalies in that category.
Overall this season, Morris has compiled a 23-15-4 record. He’s currently tied for fourth among USHL goaltenders in victories while ranking third with a .921 save percentage. His 2.45 goals-against average is the sixth-best mark among league netminders.
The goaltender was also part of the U.S. Junior Select Team – comprised solely of USHL players – that captured gold at the 2014 World Junior A Challenge in December. He won his lone start in the tournament, defeating Canada East.
As a USHL rookie last season with the Steel, Morris posted a 13-5-1 record to go along with a 2.93 goals-against average and .910 save percentage. He also recorded three shutouts.
He was undrafted into the USHL and made the Steel roster following tryout camp in 2013.
