Arvada native, RoughRiders alum Morelli chosen for weekly NAHL award
Maryland Black Bears goalie Michael Morelli has been named the NAHL’s East Division Star of the Week.
Morelli, a 19-year-old Arvada native, started and won both games this past weekend as the Black Bears picked up a weekend home sweep of the Johnstown Tomahawks.
“Michael has a track record of success wherever he has played throughout his young career,” said Maryland head coach Clint Mylymok. “He is a great example of what you need in order to have success as a Junior A player. First on the ice, last to leave, competes for every puck in practice, he does it all. He is a very driven athlete and is also extremely talented. He gives us a chance to win, every time he starts, and gives our group a lot of confidence.”
On Friday, the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders grad made 26 saves in a 2-1 win, and then on Saturday, he made 30 saves in a 4-3 win.
For the 2020-21 season, Morelli has a 6-2-1 record with a 2.41 GAA and a .928 save percentage.
