Air Force’s Starrett tabbed AHC Goalie of the Week
Air Force sophomore Shane Starrett was named the Travel Team USA/Atlantic Hockey Conference Goalie of the Week as he earned MVP honors at the Ice Breaker Tournament in Denver last weekend.
Starrett, from Bellingham, Mass., stopped 83 of the 87 shots he faced to lead Air Force to a win over then-No. 5 Boston College and a shootout victory over Ohio State to win its first ever Ice Breaker championship.
Starrett stopped 37 shots in the 2-1 win over Boston College in the first game. In the second game, he made a career high 46 saves against Ohio State through the first 65 minutes as the game ended in a tie. He made four more saves in a 3-on-3 overtime and another in the shootout as Air Force won the sudden-death shootout.
In the two games, Starrett posted a 1.92 GAA and a .954 save percentage.
The player of the week honor is the sixth of his career.
Air Force, 1-0-1 overall this season, travels to Tempe, Ariz., for a two-game nonconference series against Arizona State Oct. 14 and 16.
