Pair of Colorado natives chosen USPHL Players of the Month

Two Colorado natives have been named USPHL Players of the Month for January in the league’s Mountain Division.

Colby Brett is one of the Defensemen of the Month and is a former Littleton Hawk, Boulder Bison and Colorado Thunderbirds standout.

An Erie native, the 2001-born Brett played 10 games in January for the Provo Riverblades, scoring a goal and eight points with 79 takeaways and he finished the month with a plus-12 rating. On Jan. 18, Brett had just one shot on goal but that was enough for him to score the game winner against Utah Outliers. He had two hits in the game as well and finished at plus-3.

Bryan Lockner of the Northern Colorado Eagles was tabbed one of the division’s Forwards of the Month.

The 2000-born Windsor native (pictured top) had four goals and 12 points in 10 games with the Eagles.

Despite a 5-1 loss on Jan. 22 against the Ogden Mustangs, Lockner fired seven shots and assisted on the lone goal while matching his season best with a 75 percent win rate (18 of 24) at the faceoff dot. He hit the exact same faceoff mark Jan. 29 against Utah Outliers, collecting a goal and assist on four shots.

During his youth days, Lockner played for the Thunderbirds.
